Making the Most out of Pediatric Dentistry

Posted .

The sooner that you begin pediatric care for your child, the better their oral health will be. Pediatric dentistry is a specialized field of dentistry that focuses on the oral health care of your child. Because your child is not able to adequately care for their own teeth and gums for many years to come, you will need to do so on a daily basis. For additional help in getting checkups for your child’s oral health, bring them into our pediatric team.

The first thing you should always do for your child is to examine their mouth for any signs of teeth. Around the age of six months, their first tooth will erupt above the gumline. When this happens, you will need to begin providing oral health care by cleaning the tooth on a daily basis. Remember to never press too hard as their gums are still extremely sensitive.

Once your child is around one year of age, you will need to bring them into our team. We can assess any potential health risks that may be present, as well as repair and restore any damage that may have occurred. Pediatric dentists can assist with their child’s oral health care that would otherwise be left neglected. Pediatric dentists receive two to three years of advanced training beyond regular dental school to allow them to perform complex procedures to ensure your child’s teeth and gums remain in their optimum condition.
