How to Keep Gum Disease at Bay

Posted .

If you want the most successful oral health possible, you need to prevent gum disease. Gum disease is a horrific dental issue that destroys your smile if you let it. It starts by irritating your gums and then it ends by deteriorating your underlying bone and resulting in loose and lost teeth. To help you prevent this issue, our Creekside Dental team recommends doing the following things:

Keep up on oral hygiene
Because gum disease develops when plaque remains on your smile, oral hygiene is extremely important. If you brush twice a day, floss once a day, and rinse your mouth daily with mouthwash, most of the plaque will be removed from the surfaces of your teeth each day. So, please keep up on oral hygiene as much as possible.

Attend your dental exams
Dental cleanings are the only way to completely remove the plaque from your smile, which means that dental cleanings are the only treatment that will fully prevent gum disease. This is why dental cleanings are so important. So, please remember to attend your dental cleanings and exams every six months.

Have a healthy diet
Your teeth will have a better chance of preventing gum disease if you have a healthy diet. Having a healthy diet will keep your teeth healthy and strong and it will give your chompers the ability to fight off dental issues. So, it’s best to eat healthy foods as much as possible and refrain from eating starchy and sugary foods.

Doing these three things will help you keep your smile in tip-top shape, which is exactly what we want for you!
