Gum Disease: The Signs to Look For

Posted .

As you may already know, gum disease is a serious and dangerous dental issue that has destroyed the smiles of many—and it can destroy yours if you let it. Gum disease has two stages—gingivitis and periodontitis—and it typically develops when the plaque on your smile continues to grow and take over your oral cavity. As time moves on, your gums, teeth, roots, and underlying bone become affected, resulting in loose and lost teeth. Our team at Creekside Dental wants to prevent this as much as possible, but sometimes the disease affects our smiles before we realize. So, we ask that you please look out for these signs of gum disease:

· Gums that bleed easily, like when you brush your teeth and eat food
· Swollen, red, and tender gums
· Receded gums
· A constant bad breath or a terrible taste in your mouth
· Loose teeth
· Permanent teeth that are beginning to drift out of place
· A change in your bite
· A change in the way your dentures fit inside your mouth

If you have experienced any of these symptoms, please call 509.577.8277 immediately and schedule an appointment with Dr. Bennett Packard. The sooner we catch the disease, the better off your smile will be. We also encourage you to call our office and talk to our dental team if you have any questions or if you would like to know more. We are here to help you in any way we can!
